Leslie West Undergoes Emergency Surgery On Leg

Guitar legend Leslie West just underwent emergency surgery in Biloxi, Mississippi. West and his band Mountain were headed there to perform at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino when his leg began to swell. Because Leslie is a diabetic, he was quickly rushed to the emergency room.

The decision was made to amputate his leg, and that decision saved West’s life. Luckily, the surgery was successful, removing his limb from his knee down. Leslie is expected to make a full recovery from the procedure, but he does face extensive rehabilitation. His family has requested privacy from fans and the media during his recovery and as he comes to terms with his life-changing transition.

Leslie West has been revered by artists and fans alike for decades, from Mountain’s appearance at the 1969 Woodstock Festival through his upcoming release The Unusual Suspects, which is to feature Billy Gibbons, Slash, Zakk Wylde, Joe Bonamassa, Steve Lukather and Kenny Aronoff. In West’s own words, “These guys don’t show up to play on everybody’s albums.  They’re stars in their own right and fantastic players – everyone with their own sound and style, and about as far from ‘the usual suspects’ as it gets.”
