Marc Bolan Les Paul: NAMM Show 2011

By: Staff

Finishing off the Les Paul trifecta, which also includes the Eric Clapton 1960 Les Paul and the Alex Lifeson Axcess Les Paul, Gibson showcased the Marc Bolan Les Paul during their exhibit at this year’s NAMM show. Named after the legendary T-Rex guitarist, who died tragically in a car accident at the age of 29, the guitar is a great looking instrument, and is modeled after Bolan’s guitar, which was stolen from outside his rehearsal rooms in South London during 1977.

Though there were other guitars on display at the Gibson exhibit, these three really stood out as some of the best guitars on display this year.

Someone somewhere has the original guitar. Although there are many rumours about it being stripped back and altered beyond recognition, I find it hard to believe and think that one day, someone will come out into the open about it’s genuine whereabouts. I just cannot believe that anyone would alter and re-spray such an iconic instrument as this. It is still instantly recognisable and would now be worth a small fortune.

I fail to see that the guitar that appears in the link listed above is Marc Bolan’s original late 50’s Les Paul.

Its well documented that the neck was changed from a ‘standard’ neck to a ‘Custom neck’ after the ‘accident’ when Marc himself launched the guitar through the air at a gig.

As for the “look at the dark streaks” comment so what?
    That proves nothing at all.
    No serial number, Eh??

It has been refinished and lo and behold its had another neck put on it,
    all very highly dubious indeed.

That guitar pictured is not Marc Bolan’s Les Paul!

Come on, get real, anybody with a modicum of common sense and even a little knowledge of Marc’s guitars will see that somethings amiss with that guitar that’s been pictured.
