Jimi Hendrix Tribute Stratocaster Signed By Jimi’s Father on eBay

by Staff

Al Hendrix, father of famed guitarist Jimi Hendrix, at home in Seattle.

Up for grabs on eBay is a Jimi Hendrix Tribute Stratocaster reissue, similar to the axe Hendrix unleashed at Woodstock. The owner, Arthur Sampson, knew Jimi’s father, Al, for over 25 years and met with him on four occasions. Sampson’s got photos of himself with Al Hendrix in his Seattle home.  In 2000, Arthur says he asked Al if he could bring along his Hendrix Stratocaster the next time he showed up in Seattle, and Al graciously signed the guitar. Sampson’s photos of the visit show the guitar before and after Al signed it and he’s got photos of himself, his wife and Al together in Al’s home.

Between 1997 and 2000, Fender built this series of guitars in its Corona plant, wiring the guitar similar to the specifications of the original guitar Jimi played at Woodstock. The guitar is a left hand model, strung right-handed reversed, so the strap button was placed on the lower bout. The Strat for sale is Olympic White has a maple neck and that old late ’60s type headstock that many players seem to prefer over the ’50s and early ’60s smaller headstock.

The coolest thing about this Hendrix model is the three reverse staggered vintage Strat pickup set-up, that offers up an opportunity for Hendrix freaks to nail down the sound of “Manic Depression, “Fire,” “The Wind Cries Mary,” and “Purple Haze.”

But….take a deep breath…at minimum offer price of $10,000, the Stratocaster demands a deep dive into someone’s wallet. Still, this might be as close as any of us will get to a Jimi Hendrix autographed Stratocaster.
